Deze cactus komt van het verlaten Palestijns dorp Lifta, waar een eeuwenoude bron gelegen is. Ik maakte flessen in de vorm van deze waterhoudende plant die veel symbolische betekenis heeft en een complexe politieke geschiedenis draagt. De wens van de verjaagde bewoners om terug te keren vertaalde ik door een waterfles te maken in de vorm van cactussen, bedoeld om het water uit de bron te bewaren. (i.s.m. エルサレムBezalel Academy of Arts and Designとの共同プロジェクトの一環として、現地の学生から、パレスチナ人が退去を強いられたリフタ村に生えるウチワサボテンの葉が送られてきた。何世紀も家屋や人々を守り続けてきたこの植物の背負う複雑な歴史を前に、私は水の入れ物を制作することにした。リフタ村には旧約聖書にも登場する古い泉がある。吹きガラスと磁器で作られたこれらの入れ物は、空家を守りながら住民を待ち続けるサボテンのように、いつかその泉の水で満たされることを待っている。

This cactus comes from the abandoned Palestinian village of Lifta, where an ancient well is located. I made bottles in the shape of this water-bearing plant that carries a lot of symbolic meaning and a complex political history. I translated the wish of the exiled residents to return by making a water bottle in the shape of a cactus, intended to preserve the water from the well.
